Topic: The Views on this Change
The public had different groups of views on this change. First, the group that voted for the women’s suffrage campaign thought the society would be kinder, gentler, more cautious and concerned for the weak. These people thought it would be more affective to have a civilizing effect in politics which the women could’ve provided. The women in their opinion would tend and support controls on alcohol and that they would be easier to influence in law. Other people thought that men and women should be equal in every single way. They thought there was no such thing as a “women’s natural role”. They didn’t appreciate that some people couldn’t vote because of money, status, gender and race. Lastly came the men’s view, the most important opinion who opposed on this change. The men said that political equalities would break up homes and throw children into the arms of servant girls. They argued that majority of the women were emotional and their choices differed on their enthusiasm on the topic. They thought if it was a franchise, they would be a menace rather than aid because of their unsteady emotions. Women were suggested to stay home and do household duties as their job. Until World War 1 they wouldn’t budge from their decision before the pressure started eating them away.
