War on Land, Sea, and Air
WW1 took place on land, sea and in the air all across the world. On land
you could be fighting in the trenches with hand weapons or on big areas of
land. Also, you could be in or beside a tank to have more and better protection when being fired at. In the
sea, there is a certain type of submarine called a U-Boat that stands for undersea boat. Germany
had 294 boats and within 10 weeks, they sank 5 of Britain’s boats. In October
1916 – January 1917, 1.4 million tons of allied ships lost to the U-Boats.
Canada built 360 U-Boats, lost 178, and sank 11 million all because of the
U-Boats. When Canada is fighting in the air, they use planes, with 70 different
types. Canada lost 245 planes, 200 pilots, and captured 100 from the enemies.
July 1915, Canada decided to install a machine gun in the propeller although
very careful in how they installed it so the propeller didn’t get shot off by
the machine gun. April 1917, was known as “Bloody April” because Canada’s
losses were very severe.
