Canada's Weapons
Canada had multiple
weapons they used in WW1 against their enemies. Canada used a rifle and machine
gun with an advantage of rapid fire of 400 – 800 rounds and a kill zone of 400
meters in distance. The disadvantage is that it’s big and heavy and weighs
about 30 – 60 kilograms. The machine gun takes 4 – 6 people to operate needing
a flat surface to be used effectively. Canada first used tanks in Battle of
Somme with the British having 26 000 tanks, French had 3 870, and the Germans
had 20. Tanks clear the way for soldiers and are used for big attacks,
although, they were very slow and went 3 mph. These tanks couldn’t cross
trenches and could break down really easily along with a 7 – 8 crew controlling
it. Canada also used 3 types of gases such as tear gas, chlorine gas, and
mustard gas. Tear gas was first used in August 1914 and affects your eyes,
lungs, mouth and throat that lead to crying, coughing or temporary blindness. Chlorine
gas was first used in April 1915 and affects eyes and lungs. Mustard gas was
first used in July 1917 and took 12 hours to affect. Although, it became
deadlier as time passed by and caused cell death.
